Entertainment: New Sailor Moon Anime Debuts Summer 2013

Honestly, I don’t know how I feel about this. I love the original comic/manga series from Japan, was glad that as bad the original English translation was it wasn’t anywhere near as bad as how the Americanized translation treated the Japanese animation. Ugh.

In fact it was so bad that I don’t think I ever really watched many of the individual episodes, however, I really liked the films/movies that came out of the series… to the point that I actually have the original VHS/DVDs somewhere.

So is it with some amount of cautious optimism that I will look at this theoretical Sailor Moon Anime series. I mean, the updated Sailor Moon manga series I am very glad to see… so yeah, we’ll see.

Unbroken: General Notes/Summary

UNBROKEN BONDS UNBROKEN LOVE
What would happen if Prince Endymion had a sister and Princess Serenity had a kind of brother and those two siblings fell in love? This series is the relationships between siblings and lovers and the ultimate bond of the quartet. Going from Book 1 set in the Silver Millennium to Book 5 in Crystal Tokyo.

Bondages in Love
Based entirely in the Silver Millennium this brings the love between Endymion and Serenity as well as Apolline from the Shadow Moon and Maia of Earth. Taking you through their growing relationships as lovers and siblings and finally the defeat of the Silver Millennium.

Midnight Dreams
Set in Present Earth the senshi have gone through several battles already. Now after the defeat of the Shadows of Dream the senshi enjoy only days of rest until new youma appear and with it a warrior dressed in the likeness of Tuxedo Kamen, ball gown and all. Who is the mysterious woman and what is her connection to the senshi.

With Light Comes Shadow
A continuation of Midnight Dreams. Set concurrent throughout with the equivalent of the Sailor Moon Stars series. New senshi, both good and evil come with a different agenda in mind. The Sailor Stars’ mission to find their princess, the Sailor Animates’ mission to get the Sailor Crystals so that they may become sailor senshi. But through it all two new warriors come to the forefront.

Rise of the Fourth Kingdom
Chaos returned to its cauldron, all family and friends reunited, it would seem that peace is finally evident. Unfortunately all good things must come to an end as the cause of the plight of Princess Maia resurfaces and her life comes into jeopardy. The answers behind the stunning mystery of the Earth Princess are finally revealed.

Utopia Kingdom
Set in during Crystal Tokyo, a possible conclusion to the series Unbroken Bonds Unbroken Love. The senshi are with their loves and are wondering if young Sailor Saturn, and mysterious Sailor Pluto would ever find theirs. Pluto and Saturn thought heavy (tentative).

Visual Art Commission: Carla Wyzgala’s “Sailor Pluto”

W00t! It is done! The second of three commissions of the “Sailor Moon” series… “Sailor Pluto”! I love Sailor Pluto, the most enigmatic of the Sailor Senshi.

As much as I love the elegance and beauty of Sailor Neptune, I love the elegance and distance of Sailor Pluto. Of all the Sailor Senshi I feel like I relate the most with these two. Them and Mamoru Chiba aka Tuxedo Kamen.

Just a quick recap of the inspiration of the series:

Earlier this year (2012) I went to the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo aka C2E2. After a quick glance through the Artist Alley I saw a watercolor painting of Sailor Moon in her Sailor Senshi uniform. So since I was set on the artist of the watercolor painting the artist and I agreed to swap emails in hopes to find a style that I would be interested in.

After a series of emails, we agreed that she’d work on the Sailor Senshi starting with my favorites: Sailor Neptune and Sailor Pluto. In time she started to love the series and decided to complete the series on her own if I did not wish to have any more than what I really would like. Eventually I asked her to work on a piece involving Tuxedo Kamen, aka Chiba Mamoru (or Mamoru Chiba according to the western context of naming schemes). In response she did a quick series of pencil sketches for all the senshi in their “princess forms” and is just as excited as I am in completing the series for her portfolio.

Eventually I’ll post the original sketches that she sent me weeks ago. 🙂 I’m excited.

Visual Art Commission: Carla Wyzgala’s “Sailor Neptune”

Earlier this year (2012) I went to the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo aka C2E2. Once in a while I would go to the Artist Alley and just walk up and down the aisles and stop at tables that catch my attention for a split second (think of “ooooo shiny”) and if there is something at a table that I rather like I would walk away and wait a few hours or a day and I’ll either go back to the table or contact the artist directly for a personal commission.

Such a thing happened this year when I passed by a table and saw a watercolor painting of Sailor Moon. Yes, I am a Moonie, I was introduced to the anime by a couple of girls I used to be babysit for back in high school / college. I was drawn more into the mythology that the author created for her characters to live in, and that really struck me as something worthwhile. The most I read about the background of the manga series, the more I realized just how much of it related to Greco-Roman mythology and Western Astrology, two realms that I have been interested in for quite some time.

Now that I was sold on the watercolor painting… I sifted through to see what I could be interested in purchasing. Being a lover of art since I am unable to paint, watercolor, etc (I much prefer sculpturing and crafts and knitting/crocheting but that’s a different story) I’ve been collecting artworks for the past decade. Seeing nothing that caught my attention entirely the artist and I agree to swap emails in hopes to find something I would be more interested in.
