Entertainment: New Sailor Moon Anime Debuts Summer 2013

Honestly, I don’t know how I feel about this. I love the original comic/manga series from Japan, was glad that as bad the original English translation was it wasn’t anywhere near as bad as how the Americanized translation treated the Japanese animation. Ugh.

In fact it was so bad that I don’t think I ever really watched many of the individual episodes, however, I really liked the films/movies that came out of the series… to the point that I actually have the original VHS/DVDs somewhere.

So is it with some amount of cautious optimism that I will look at this theoretical Sailor Moon Anime series. I mean, the updated Sailor Moon manga series I am very glad to see… so yeah, we’ll see.

Entertainment: The Avengers – Sailor Moon style!

Since The Avengers opened in theatres a several weeks ago there’s been a plethora of fan art throughout internet. Heck even the Hulk flinging Loki like a ragdoll was recreated in some capacity or another in various YouTube videos.

So when going through Fashionably Geek, I geeked out on the following image.

Yes, you’re seeing that right, it’s The Avengers redrawn into the image of a Sailor Soldiers. Looking more into detail it turns out that the above was drawn by Ann Marcellino, which prints are available.

Vignette: Silver Moonlight (Story 2)

AUTHOR NOTE: This was written as a part of a compilation series at the Silver Moonlight website in 2002. What happened is that someone starts the story and another picks up a story and continues for a little bit and stops then another picks it up, etc. Silver Moonlight was a Sailor Moon fansite back in the day, so obviously the following is Sailor Moon based.

Queen Serenity closed her eyes as a soft breeze coaxed her to rest. Her mind drifted to the nothingness that became quite common during those times when she wanted nothing more than to relax. As her mind continued to slip further into the comforting abyss… it started to wander to the times of long ago. Times that were once free and not quite as chaotic, to a time where there was no destiny nor fate taking a hand in her future…

After what seemed to be just mere seconds she felt the warmth of the sunlight against her skin. Children laughter was heard far in the distance and she felt the afternoon breeze tickle her from her temporary reverie.

“Usagi-chan! Usagi wake up!”

A voice yelled to her, instantly Queen Serenity woke up. The picture she saw around her was not of the palace, nor was there the crystalline glow of her beloved city. What she saw before her was greener and more beautiful than she remembered the park in Tokyo to be.

“Usagi! Over here odango-atama!”

Serenity looked to the distance and saw Sailor Mars and Sailor Venus rushing over to her, <Usagi? But does that mean…> She lowered her head and gazed at her clothing, sure enough she was wearing the high school uniform. Looking back at Mars and Venus it would seem that they too were wearing their respective high school garments. <How in the… where is everyone?> She wondered.

Instinctively she rushed to her best friend and gave her a hug, “Hello Mars-chan,” seeing her other close friend she nodded, “Venus-chan.” However the reception was taken to a sudden jolt.

“What are you talking about odango atama? Mars? Venus? Did you eat more odango’s than you could think with?” The raven haired girl let go of Usagi and looked at her quizzitively. Looking to her golden-haired companion, “I knew she didn’t have anything in her head.”

Usagi’s heart pumped harder as her blood boiled quickly, <nothing? How could she? I’m the heir to the Moon Kingdom, Queen of Crystal Tokyo. I…> then she realized that her closest friends did not answer to their respective planets… in fact they seemed to be oblivious to… well… everything.

Forcing a slight smile and not really understanding what is going on with her friends, Usagi joined them in park never noticing a shadow of a tall young man looking at her with confused eyes.

Vignette: Reincarnation

AUTHOR NOTES: I wrote this back in 2003 for my original website. I am just reposting for prosperity.

REINCARNATION

Before I could say anything about me, let me make something clear. Marianya is a name that I had adopted years ago. It is the name that I am known in the online world. My given name at birth will never be divulged.

I don’t really remember how my life was like without all the friends I have made or rather reacquainted myself with since my Reawakening. I too am of oriental descent, mistakenly for Chinese or Philippino. I was and still am a dreamer in every sense of the word. I always dream of a better life in the future, one where pain does not exist, happiness and joy reign supreme. I dream of a world that does not know of wars, that does not know of hatred. But alas at the time, the dreams were just that, dreams.

I grew up, most of my young life from birth until high school, pretty much alone. Sure I had friends, some that I talk to, but no one, I felt, really understood me. They were already in their own little group, in their own little world. I did not mind the loneliness, I grew accustomed to it, it became the center of my being. Sure there were times when I was in pain, and depressed, but I thought that perhaps everyone goes through this once in a while…

However that pain became a daily dose of reality for me, something that became a constant, that became me. Once in a while I would find a small corner of my home and cry, knowing quite well that I was alone in the world.

I went through accidents that I should have died from, but something, someone was preventing that from happening. Each day became another day through obstacles, another day through life, through pain. Thus how my poetry began. There were times when I found a focus, another purpose to keep me out of trouble, to forget about my worries and my life.

But I knew that these were not last, they would never last.

High school came to an end for me, though most were not thrilled of leaving the ‘Four Best Years’ of their lives behind them. I for one was extremely happy. I never wanted to go through those torturous corridors another day of my life. I wanted to start my life anew, take another chance of becoming happy. Thus the university.

My university life, started out reasonably the same as in high school, I was still very much alone, not knowing as to where I fit in or to whom I was friends with. I knew however that it was only the first year and that I still had three plus years left to go. So came summer school.

During summer school a friendship grew between myself and another person. Also during that time in my life I met the most outgoing and happiest person in the world, another Usagi if you will. For with out her, I may never have gone through my university life happier, and intact.

It was during the summer that I started to learn about the Japanese animation, Sailor Moon. One thing led to another and I was hooked. I loved the story line, and enjoyed reading about her. For without my sudden interest in Sailor Moon I would never have found that chance to find a strong bond and friendship between myself and others of like mind.

Visual Art Commission: Carla Wyzgala’s “Sailor Pluto”

W00t! It is done! The second of three commissions of the “Sailor Moon” series… “Sailor Pluto”! I love Sailor Pluto, the most enigmatic of the Sailor Senshi.

As much as I love the elegance and beauty of Sailor Neptune, I love the elegance and distance of Sailor Pluto. Of all the Sailor Senshi I feel like I relate the most with these two. Them and Mamoru Chiba aka Tuxedo Kamen.

Just a quick recap of the inspiration of the series:

Earlier this year (2012) I went to the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo aka C2E2. After a quick glance through the Artist Alley I saw a watercolor painting of Sailor Moon in her Sailor Senshi uniform. So since I was set on the artist of the watercolor painting the artist and I agreed to swap emails in hopes to find a style that I would be interested in.

After a series of emails, we agreed that she’d work on the Sailor Senshi starting with my favorites: Sailor Neptune and Sailor Pluto. In time she started to love the series and decided to complete the series on her own if I did not wish to have any more than what I really would like. Eventually I asked her to work on a piece involving Tuxedo Kamen, aka Chiba Mamoru (or Mamoru Chiba according to the western context of naming schemes). In response she did a quick series of pencil sketches for all the senshi in their “princess forms” and is just as excited as I am in completing the series for her portfolio.

Eventually I’ll post the original sketches that she sent me weeks ago. 🙂 I’m excited.

Visual Art Commission: Carla Wyzgala’s “Sailor Neptune”

Earlier this year (2012) I went to the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo aka C2E2. Once in a while I would go to the Artist Alley and just walk up and down the aisles and stop at tables that catch my attention for a split second (think of “ooooo shiny”) and if there is something at a table that I rather like I would walk away and wait a few hours or a day and I’ll either go back to the table or contact the artist directly for a personal commission.

Such a thing happened this year when I passed by a table and saw a watercolor painting of Sailor Moon. Yes, I am a Moonie, I was introduced to the anime by a couple of girls I used to be babysit for back in high school / college. I was drawn more into the mythology that the author created for her characters to live in, and that really struck me as something worthwhile. The most I read about the background of the manga series, the more I realized just how much of it related to Greco-Roman mythology and Western Astrology, two realms that I have been interested in for quite some time.

Now that I was sold on the watercolor painting… I sifted through to see what I could be interested in purchasing. Being a lover of art since I am unable to paint, watercolor, etc (I much prefer sculpturing and crafts and knitting/crocheting but that’s a different story) I’ve been collecting artworks for the past decade. Seeing nothing that caught my attention entirely the artist and I agree to swap emails in hopes to find something I would be more interested in.

Elements of Song: Original Notes/General Summary

As promised, in regards to my fanfiction: Elements of Song, I am posting some (if not all) of my original notes that deals with the world I created. Please, enjoy.

Some of the notes below I wrote years ago when I needed an idea that would provide a very realistic crossover story between the popular boy bands of the time and Sailor Moon. The below is what I came up with.

=====

There was a prophecy, on the planet of Euphonia, that predicted the awakening of the heart of the planet that would mark the beginning of all things good and grandiose of the world. At the same time however the awakening of the final element of song: heart, marked the beginning of the end of Euphonia.

During the final battle everyone else was killed except for Bazyli, Arion and Greta. Bazyli and Arion did not know that Greta was captured by the attacker until they finally reached him/her. It was then when the attacked reveals his ace. This revelation only moved the two to fight even harder forcing the villain to realize that she/he would need to do something and quick, and as thus casted a spell that placed Greta into a frozen prison pushing Arion to the breaking point and Bazyli to fight even harder.

In the end Bazyli is mortally wounded which awakens Arion from his mourning and Arion fights the evil to the bitter end, killing her the moment she wounds him. His last few moments of life he talks to Bazyli and forgives him for his love of Greta and reaching Greta he dies by the crystal.

Little does he know, his enemy though now dead managed to find the foresight to seal a major portion of their being into Greta, and as thus the evil that everyone is fighting is really Greta when this evil takes control of her. Greta (the part that Arion and Bazyli both loved) still exists and was in full control when she meets JC and Brian, however, when she’s alone or asleep it is that evil side that awakens and takes hold to do the evil deeds necessary to destroy music once and for all.

The final battle would again include JC and Brian, but this time Sailor Moon would be the one that would be able to seal the demon away and leave behind the girl that brought so much life and inspiration to a little known thing called music. Except, in the end she wouldn’t remember a thing, the demon that brought her to this point taking much of those memories away, she’d never remember the love she ever had with the past nor the present… much to the disheartenment of all parties involved.

However, as Mamoru later points out, it is for the best for her to try to live her life as best as she can, and as thus ends up living with the Sailor Senshi in Japan. So when NSync or BSB goes to Japan for a tour, there they will find her happier and more in tune with herself and that will be when the love reawakens.

————————————————————————

– take the elements of music and intertwine them with each of the members of the court. Without one court member/spot filled all other elements would coalesce over time. Thus when the traitors are revealed there is an immediate need to find those that would take the places of the traitors of the court.

– the power of the prince also depends on the integrity of the court. Once one or more members of the court falter the prince also falters. If everyone of the court is gone the prince will die

– however there is one element that could save the prince should all of the court turn against him or no longer exist, heart. As long as ‘heart’ exists the prince is more likely to survive longer than when he has nothing. However once the prince finds ‘heart’, no matter what happens with the court (should they all be whole) once ‘heart’ is taken away the prince will only be living on borrowed time.
