Reflection: Blogging at the Pure TV Network

I think I am burned out… at least when it comes to blogging on Pure Dancing With the Stars.

Well I kind of knew that when I wasn’t interested in working through the spreadsheets during the off season in favor of doing more personal stuff. But I think what did it was when I didn’t even have the Pre-Season Elimination post started and the start of the season was a day away, that was when I knew.

It’s not that I am overwhelmed… I am never overwhelmed, I love to keep busy and having a million plus one projects on my plate so every moment of my life is kept busy and if something else were to fall through I could sift through all the umpteen number of projects and work on something else.

I think what is doing it is that I am focusing more and more on being creative as opposed to analytical.

UPDATE: PureTVNetwork and other Odds and Ends

So… with the announcement of the pairings on the Monday directly after the Olympics in London ended I have been hard at work not only posting the pre-season elimination predictions to include the announced professional partners, but on the PureDWTS Predictions: Professional Partners page that is housed on my personal blog.

I have also been going back in time and working on the previous seasons to see if there is any possibility of overscoring in comparison to past seasons.

Hopefully I’ll get all this done prior to my leaving the country and heading to the other side of the world to visit family for a spell.

In the meantime head on over to Pure So You Think You Can Dance and Pure America’s Got Talent for some of my other postings since both will start up this week now that the Olympics are over.

Over at the Pure TV Network blog, any updates I may have in regards to NBCs the Voice will be posted.

UPDATES!: Blogging in General and Beyond

So… I haven’t blogged on my personal site as much as I would have liked… and I have been busy… very very busy.

For the most part I just comment on what I see, where I went and what I do… I purposely avoid anything extremely personal mainly because that’s something that should remain close to my heart… In time that might change, I just haven’t decided how or when quite yet.

Until then this is what I have been up to and what to expect from me down the road.

PureTVNetwork: PureDWTS, PureSYTYCD and PureAmericasGotTalent
Blogging… probably one of the major things that is really keeping me busy during my current sabbatical from the theatre world. Since the summer is where two of the more popular shows: So You Think You Can Dance and America’s Got Talent are on and as thus I’ve been focusing the majority of my free time in creating new pages so there are references for the readers to follow… the majority of that work is almost complete so I could go back and focus on a few projects that I have had planned for the past couple of months for Pure Dancing With the Stars… hopefully that will wrap up within a few weeks.

In the Fall when NBC’s The Voice returns I will be adding that to my blogging dance card over at Pure TV Network. There are rumors of another blogging opening within the network… but I can’t reveal the exact nature until a later date. But I can say that it is SYTYCD related.

Working behind the Scenes:
Granted I jump away from the stage to be working on adapting a short story for the stage and learning about the technical side of the theatre… but as for actually being on stage… let’s just say there are quite a few shows I’m looking into possibly auditioning.

In the meantime I am learning about sound design/engineering from a technically advanced guy in the field and am learning alot… hopefully, overtime, I’ll learn a bit about lighting design as well as stage management from that group in the upcoming months.

Writing, Writing, Writing:
Well… I submitted a movie proposal earlier in the summer and was gently rejected due to other plum projects… which is ok, I didn’t expect anything to happen. In the mean time I am working on adapting a work from Ray Bradbury’s The Illustrated Man for the stage… as for when that is going to be put onto the stage is anyone’s guess.

There are a few other writing projects that are on hold or in the editing stages, time permitting. But considering my six week sabbatical from theatre is almost up… who knows if I’ll ever get to them in time.

Outings and Reviews:
There have been quite a few audiobooks that I recently listened to and will be re-listening to soon. So expect a long list of Literary Reviews to be posted in the coming months. Also I have seen a few shows in the community theatre world so I will be posting my impressions on those productions in due time as well.

I think that’s it… Yes, I’ve been busy. Yes I am planning on traveling… Yes, I am now working two jobs. But you don’t see me complaining do you?

UPDATES: New Pages Added at PureDWTS and PureSYTYCD

Over the past few weeks I have been beefing up various reference pages over at PureDWTS (Pure Dancing with the Stars) and PureSYTYCD (Pure So You Think You Can Dance) blog sites. More will come over time, but the below is what has been completed thus far, original they were posted on my personal blog, but some have been transferred over to the blogs mentioned above.

Pure So You Think You Can Dance Reference Pages
“All Star” Choreographers
Before the “All Stars” came into being, past contestants of So You Think You Can Dance have been asked to come back and choreograph routines for a pair of dancers. Here you can find who has been asked to come back to choreograph a piece for the dancers on the show

“All Star” Dancers
When the “All Star” Dancers were first announced in Season 7 there was rampant speculation as to who would be chosen as the “All Star” Dancers. What was originally a pool of ten dancers grew to move due to availability for the show in Season 8. Here you could find out who was brought back as an “All Star” and when they were on the show as an “All Star” Dancer

Audition Cities
This is a table of all the cities that So You Think You Can Dance has visited before “Vegas Callbacks” (originally called “Hollywood Weekend” in Season One). This table is broken down by season.

Crossover with Dancing with the Stars
Several ballroom dancers that have been on SYTYCD have crossed over to the other major television dancing show: Dancing with the Stars. How those dancers have fared on the other major dance show are found here along with whom they were partnered with.

UPDATES: Website Pages Added

So I’ve been busy, putting down a little of my history, interests, etc.

Although I haven’t really updated the blog contents persay, I have been adding pages that can be found in the upper right hand corner of the weblog. Below is a breakdown of the pages:
BIOGRAPHY
Information about my background in writing, theatre, web designing: basically anything and everything artistically related.

BLOGGING
A lot of the work I do at PureDWTS, PureSYTYCD, PureAmericasGotTalent and PureTVNet sometimes would require references and background work… so I will posting a lot of the background information here. Though some of the pages can be found over at the various blogs as well.

BREAKDOWN
A quick cheat sheet of the breakdown of the various posts on the website

ENTERTAINMENT
Anything and everything that I find entertaining from books to music to comics, etc.

FAQ
General information about specific projects that I have been working on.

BEYOND THE ABYSS
I’ve been going through my old website design and posting the various vignettes and stories that are officially shelves in some capacity or I took the time to complete real quickly just to complete the series. Since they are more fiction related that is why they are in “Beyond the Abyss” as opposed to here on the primary blog.

Fleeting: 2012 Tonys (Once and Newsies)

The 2012 Tony Awards aired… I was excited this time around because two of the shows with a lot of buzz were coming in with quite a few nominations: Once and Newsies, both of which I saw on my last trip to NYC. The only major similarity is that both are based off of movies of the same name, both are special in different ways.

UPDATE: Website Additions and Changes

After looking through the years of writing projects that I’ve shelved, I’m dusting off a lot of what I have written and posting them at “Beyond the Abyss”, a side blog dedicated to everything related to my fictional writing projects (primarily fanfiction and some original).

I am doing this primarily because questions have popped up over the years in regards to some of the things I have written and were discontinued for one reason or another. This particular side blog will be connected primarily with such projects like Currents, Like a Dream, and the fanfiction Elements of Song that I have worked on in the past and will post ideas, characters, background that I feel have no chance of being revisited again in the near future. Another web-drama that never got a chance to come off the ground was Rosarito, I may provide insight to that particular never launched web serial depending on which characters/background I may recycle for future works.

In the meantime, in the coming months I will be busy blogging at other sites:
Pure America’s Got Talent (Mondays and Tuesdays)
– Providing the music list and personal thoughts/power rankings on the acts that have come through the show

Pure So You Think You Can Dance (Wednesdays)
– Providing the music list and personal thoughts on the dancers during the auditions and power rankings when the performances are live

Pure Dancing with the Stars (Thursdays and/or Fridays)
– Providing comparison statistics of previous seasons to this last season
– Providing statistics and graphs of celebrities rumored to be on the show for the Season 15 All-Star Season in the Fall

Also in preparation for Season 15 of Dancing with the Stars, because so many questions have popped up I will be providing expository calculations, reasoning and breakdowns as to how I come up with the predicted calculations and pre-season elimination predictions. These pages will be found via the PureDWTS page on my personal blog.

Review: Disney’s the Newsies, the Musical – Original Broadway Production

When The Newsies first came out to movie theaters in 1992, it was well known as a massive financial and commercial flop. The star of the movie, Christian Bale, was said to have hated the movie so much that he reportedly wouldn’t talk or even acknowledge its existence in his acting career (but between you and me Christian should thank his lucky stars that the Newsies was a flop otherwise it wouldn’t have given him the drive to improve himself as an actor and therefore be an Oscar winner today – but that’s a different story).

Fast forward a couple of decades and the Newsies became a massive cult classic… what started as a flop in movie theaters across the country became a cult classic when put on VHS and DVD (I know I’m guilty of that). So when it came out that Disney Theatrical was working on a musical version of the beloved movie, the general consensus was cautiously positive and with just cause because the movie did not do well how would a stage production fare?

So Disney got smart, they tested the show out of town to positive reviews, reworked a few things here and there and brought it to Broadway on a limited but open ended engagement. Next thing you know it has been a packed house ever since.

Being a Newsies fan I was intrigued with the concept of the stage production and so far liked what I saw. However, knowing that some pieces of the storytelling got changed or rearranged, songs got cut others got added in, I was reasonably apprehensive. Was Disney selling out the integrity of the story in favor of catering to a larger audience? I didn’t quite know what to think, so originally I decided to wait until the soundtrack came out to make my decision of whether to see the show live or not… originally.

Reflection: Since my original top ten “bucket list” is done… Now what?

This has been bothering me for a few years, a few as in the past three or four years… why? Well, let me explain:

While I was in college, I created a “Top Ten” bucket list that I felt was semi-realistic and would be something that would keep me busy for decades to come… right… “decades”. More like “decade”… as in one, as in less than a decade. Granted anyone that knows me well, know what I really want out of life… but in the meantime a bucket of things to do in the meantime would always help… right? Right… little did I know.

I have always believed in the willingness of trying anything at least once, possibly twice just to make sure the first wasn’t a fluke. Then, if it turns out to be something I truly enjoy, then I’ll pursue the activity further in the future, possibly bring more people into coming with me. If in the end it just wasn’t my cup of tea, then at least I could say that I gave it a shot. I mean think about it… If everyone did as much as they could just once in their lives they would find hundreds, if not thousands of things they could be interested in and pursue… Instead of just staying in a small little circle.

Blogging: DWTS Season 14 – Pre-Cast Announcement

Tomorrow’s the cast announcement for Dancing with the Stars Season 14 and I’m excited. Why? Because I get to bring my writing background and combine it with my love of ballroom dancing and crunch numbers up the wazoo… I swear I should have been a statistician or actuary at this point, but I digress.

In previous seasons of Dancing with the Stars at the PureDWTS.com weblog I would post my pre-season predictions of who the numbers say would be eliminated in what order. For more information go to my post DWTS Season 11’s Who has the Edge?: Part 1 and Part 2. If you’re curious here were my pre-season elimination predictions for Season 12 and Season 13.

Now if you’re wondering how did I get myself into this… let me tell you.
