Fleeting: Back on that Writing Saddle… Sort Of

One of the problems that have been fairly steady as of late versus ten plus years ago is that although ideas, thoughts, and stories are constant in their presence and in the imagination, the actual writing of them into a cohesive unit is far more difficult

Case in point, one of the oldest fanfictions (what author does not create “what if scenarios” for their favorite characters) the process was fairly smooth in composition. Pick a starting point and simply write. The different groups of characters from three differing places of the world had their own stories to tell before they were to meet and seeing what they were doing came easily… more than easily… it was there.

Another story written before that, the storyline was fairly straightforward, but the writing thereof was not linear, it was all over the place. One moment it was towards the end of the store, the next it was the beginning, and then perhaps somewhere in the middle. Just all over the place until the entirety finally poured on to the page and was then completed.

Nowadays find the writing just as piece meal as it was in those early days. With ideas and storyline all over the place but no real cohesive unit anywhere except in the grandiose scheme of things.

Like right now, as much as one would try to focus on a particular character… another group of characters (currently dubbed “The Musketeers”) just keep clamoring to be seen, then again, gentlemen of that persuasion tend to want for attention. What is an author to do than to write the scene involving these particular enigmatic group of gentlemen and see what would happen.

So what did happen?

Fleeting: Why I am Leaving Community Theatre

I am not “taking a break” as it may appear to be… “retiring” might be a more appropriate term… though some people come “out of retirement” for one more show.

No… for me “leaving” is the most appropriate term for the usage here.

“Leaving” has a bit of finality to it, a kind of ending one chapter to start another one… and theatre has been a part of my life (albeit on and off) for over ten years. I will miss it, but I do have to end it.

Acting, stage managing, video editing… all of it. It has been tickling the back of my mind for months now. That this might be it, the last hurrah, though at first I thought it was after the 2014-2015 season, but the more I think about it the more I realize that this is probably better to be done by the end of the calendar year.

But why stop when I could chug along and (hopefully) do what I want? A lot of factors perhaps, some personal, some petty, but all draining in one arena or the next.

Where to begin?

Fleeting: Getting a Netflix Account

I blame my beau… affectionately of course, because he actually introduced me to some fun shows and those that I really want to know more about…

But I was doing quite well in grossly limiting my television viewing by a significant amount. Now I have been introduced to a fair number of shows that appears to only be available on Netflix…

So what shows finally got me to jump on the bandwagon?

Fleeting: Going off the Radar

Not because I don’t want to continue blogging… but because there is a shift happening. In particular So You Think You Can Dance and America’s Got Talent are both going on and guess who gets to write those?

Yep… me.

But also I have been going back to my writing projects and have been working on a few projects here and there. So the shift of my blogging would probably end up focusing on whatever writing project I am working on…

So what would I reveal?

Fleeting: Why “Dancing Through the Universe”?

Why yes… it has been a while and I am well aware of that. So what have I been doing that has been keeping me from writing and blogging?

I’ve been busy. I was on stage or off stage for various shows. Going to see shows in the area… working on my day job, or attempting to blog for Dancing with the Stars.

Eventually balls needed to get dropped because there has been something else that has been keeping my attention:

Writing.

Or more precisely development. Considering I have a fair number of writing-related projects on back burner and was not able to be a part of any of the summer shows coming up, this has become a rare opportunity to focus on that aspect of my life that I haven’t really touched for years (well more like over a decade and a half but who’s counting really?).

So what does any of this have to deal with the title of this post?

Reflection: Blogging at the Pure TV Network

I think I am burned out… at least when it comes to blogging on Pure Dancing With the Stars.

Well I kind of knew that when I wasn’t interested in working through the spreadsheets during the off season in favor of doing more personal stuff. But I think what did it was when I didn’t even have the Pre-Season Elimination post started and the start of the season was a day away, that was when I knew.

It’s not that I am overwhelmed… I am never overwhelmed, I love to keep busy and having a million plus one projects on my plate so every moment of my life is kept busy and if something else were to fall through I could sift through all the umpteen number of projects and work on something else.

I think what is doing it is that I am focusing more and more on being creative as opposed to analytical.

Possibilities: So Now What?

After several months of being busy non-stop during the days and evenings both on weekdays and weekends I suddenly find myself in a position where I may actually have time to kill.

So now what?

Well… if you have read a few of my previous posts I have left clues here and there as to what I could possibly have on the back burner:

WRITING / BLOGGING PROJECTS
Ever since Seth Rudetsky’s off chance comment of turning the musical Chess into a movie… my imagination has been going into high gear of inspiration of various writing projects that I wanted to get back into or desiring to start again.

Also with various reality television shows coming back in March… my blogging endeavors will take over once again particularly for:
NBC’s The Voice: Monday, 25 March at 7:00 pm Central
ABC’s Dancing with the Stars: Monday, 18 March at 7:00pm Central
And hopefully (time permitting) NBC’s new matchmaking reality show:
NBC’s Ready for Love: Sunday, 31 March 7:00pm Central

Where could you find the above? Well my posts for Dancing with the Stars you can find over at Pure Dancing with the Stars aka PureDWTS.com and all the other would be at Pure TV Network aka PureTVNet.

Fleeting: Why Do I Blog?

Well the easiest answer would be that blogging is a simple way to keep my writing skills up to par… or just below par all things considered.

Then again, I was talking to an acquaintance of mine who was thinking of creating a blog about ways to be more green in the office, at home, out and about, etc… and she believed that when someone is “blogging” there is typically a theme associated with their blog.

So when she asked what the theme of my blog was, I was hard pressed to find a suitable answer. In the end I believe the consensus was that my personal blog are just any and every random thought that comes through my head that I just need to write out in some capacity or another otherwise I would be prone to over-thinking about said thought as opposed to placing said thought off to the side or back burner to focus on something else that is more pressing.

How’s that for a nice convoluted answer?

But really… why do I blog?

UPDATE: Changing Up My Writing Style

So… after rereading some of my past posts… I realize that my writing style tends to sound that of… well… a monotonous professor.

*sighs*

What am I going to do now? Well… I am going to try to infuse more of my non-work personality into some of these posts in the hopes of being more… conversational. Yeeeaaah.

We shall see… shall we?

UPDATE: New Tumblr!!!

Ok… I didn’t do what I normally do in cases like this and claim my typical username early enough in the process. I simply didn’t feel the need. Ugh.

I looked up whomever has my usual username “marianya” and they aren’t even using it! Grrrr. Ah well, in the meantime my username out on Tumblr-land is “marianyaklis”.

Why “Klis”?
Because it is the surname I chose for myself way back in the stone ages of the internet when I picked up the pseudonym “Marianya”. “Klis” was a surname of a family from an old story idea I had back in grade school and it stuck to me ever since.

Why create a Tumblr blog?

UPDATE: PureTVNetwork and other Odds and Ends

So… with the announcement of the pairings on the Monday directly after the Olympics in London ended I have been hard at work not only posting the pre-season elimination predictions to include the announced professional partners, but on the PureDWTS Predictions: Professional Partners page that is housed on my personal blog.

I have also been going back in time and working on the previous seasons to see if there is any possibility of overscoring in comparison to past seasons.

Hopefully I’ll get all this done prior to my leaving the country and heading to the other side of the world to visit family for a spell.

In the meantime head on over to Pure So You Think You Can Dance and Pure America’s Got Talent for some of my other postings since both will start up this week now that the Olympics are over.

Over at the Pure TV Network blog, any updates I may have in regards to NBCs the Voice will be posted.

UPDATES: New Pages Added at PureDWTS and PureSYTYCD

Over the past few weeks I have been beefing up various reference pages over at PureDWTS (Pure Dancing with the Stars) and PureSYTYCD (Pure So You Think You Can Dance) blog sites. More will come over time, but the below is what has been completed thus far, original they were posted on my personal blog, but some have been transferred over to the blogs mentioned above.

Pure So You Think You Can Dance Reference Pages
“All Star” Choreographers
Before the “All Stars” came into being, past contestants of So You Think You Can Dance have been asked to come back and choreograph routines for a pair of dancers. Here you can find who has been asked to come back to choreograph a piece for the dancers on the show

“All Star” Dancers
When the “All Star” Dancers were first announced in Season 7 there was rampant speculation as to who would be chosen as the “All Star” Dancers. What was originally a pool of ten dancers grew to move due to availability for the show in Season 8. Here you could find out who was brought back as an “All Star” and when they were on the show as an “All Star” Dancer

Audition Cities
This is a table of all the cities that So You Think You Can Dance has visited before “Vegas Callbacks” (originally called “Hollywood Weekend” in Season One). This table is broken down by season.

Crossover with Dancing with the Stars
Several ballroom dancers that have been on SYTYCD have crossed over to the other major television dancing show: Dancing with the Stars. How those dancers have fared on the other major dance show are found here along with whom they were partnered with.

Snippets: Thor on Dancing with the Stars (Australian Version)

Before I begin… here you go… Thor… DANCING!

Yes, that is Chris Hemsworth dancing the Samba with ballroom dancing professional Abbey Ross during the Australian version of Dancing with the Stars Season 5 which would have been Fall of 2006. According to Wikipedia his progression was as such:
Week 1: Waltz – 18
Week 2: Rumba – 16
Week 3: Tango – 18
Week 4: Paso Doble – 21
Week 5: Samba – 19
Week 6: Foxtrot – 19
Week 7: ChaCha – 22

According to Wikipedia, he appeared to have had the lowest through the entire duration of his time on the show save for two dances (Paso Doble and Samba). If I could find more videos I’ll post them.

Many thanks to my co-blogger Courtney from Pure Dancing with the Stars for reminding me about this gem.

UPDATE: Website Additions and Changes

After looking through the years of writing projects that I’ve shelved, I’m dusting off a lot of what I have written and posting them at “Beyond the Abyss”, a side blog dedicated to everything related to my fictional writing projects (primarily fanfiction and some original).

I am doing this primarily because questions have popped up over the years in regards to some of the things I have written and were discontinued for one reason or another. This particular side blog will be connected primarily with such projects like Currents, Like a Dream, and the fanfiction Elements of Song that I have worked on in the past and will post ideas, characters, background that I feel have no chance of being revisited again in the near future. Another web-drama that never got a chance to come off the ground was Rosarito, I may provide insight to that particular never launched web serial depending on which characters/background I may recycle for future works.

In the meantime, in the coming months I will be busy blogging at other sites:
Pure America’s Got Talent (Mondays and Tuesdays)
– Providing the music list and personal thoughts/power rankings on the acts that have come through the show

Pure So You Think You Can Dance (Wednesdays)
– Providing the music list and personal thoughts on the dancers during the auditions and power rankings when the performances are live

Pure Dancing with the Stars (Thursdays and/or Fridays)
– Providing comparison statistics of previous seasons to this last season
– Providing statistics and graphs of celebrities rumored to be on the show for the Season 15 All-Star Season in the Fall

Also in preparation for Season 15 of Dancing with the Stars, because so many questions have popped up I will be providing expository calculations, reasoning and breakdowns as to how I come up with the predicted calculations and pre-season elimination predictions. These pages will be found via the PureDWTS page on my personal blog.
