Review: Dogfight and Yo Soy Un Hombre Loco (both Short Films)

Just because I like to pimp the talents of my friends… here is my friend Shawn Bernal in Dogfight.

I haven’t seen good martial arts like that since… well… yeeeeaaaaah. I mean I love a good action flick like the next guy, but this really gets me going. πŸ™‚

Now at first glance I have never been a big fan of two against one fight sequences… it just doesn’t seem fair and adding more people into a fight sequence would feel a bit crowded if it isn’t done right… well it is being done right, and done well… as I have come to expect from Shawn and his friend Manny.

True martial arts fighting without all the tricks, this is what sets him apart from the rest of the crowd.

Earlier last year (or was it the year before) he was involved in the below film that garnered some attention… but dammit, it was definitely a hoot to watch.

Yo Soy Un Hombre Loco

This is one of those short fight films that I couldn’t help but be drawn to. I mean when my friend first showed me this I have to admit it took me a while to find a few minutes to sit down and really watch it, but when I did I had to repeat a few times to really enjoy the details involved with the fight sequences.

Granted it also helps that I had a basic idea (ok kind of a basic idea) of the locations of the filming having been there before that brings in a sense of a realism to me as well.

Like I said before… these are fight sequences that are so crisp and so clean that I would really love to see them done on the big screen sooner than later… So here’s hoping I see them and him in them on the big screen soon. πŸ˜›

Oh… and if you’re wondering here is my friend’s talent reel for 2013:
