Tomorrow’s the cast announcement for Dancing with the Stars Season 14 and I’m excited. Why? Because I get to bring my writing background and combine it with my love of ballroom dancing and crunch numbers up the wazoo… I swear I should have been a statistician or actuary at this point, but I digress.
In previous seasons of Dancing with the Stars at the PureDWTS.com weblog I would post my pre-season predictions of who the numbers say would be eliminated in what order. For more information go to my post DWTS Season 11’s Who has the Edge?: Part 1 and Part 2. If you’re curious here were my pre-season elimination predictions for Season 12 and Season 13.
Now if you’re wondering how did I get myself into this… let me tell you.
I’ve been writing since high school, be it poetry, prose, scripts, etc… you name it, I’ve done it. I’ve ventured into online RPGs (Like a Dream based off of Jem and the Holograms) as well as an online soap opera (Currents), and now weblogging. I currently blog for various blogs of the PureTVNet.com group primarily for Dancing with the Stars, America’s Got Talent, and to a lesser extent So You Think You Can Dance.
Now why dancing? I have a bit of a dance background, but primarily it revolves around partner / ballroom dancing. In my culture ballroom dancing is social dancing, be it ChaCha, Paso Doble, Viennese Waltz, etc… I grew up on this kind of dancing and assumed that was what all the kids were doing. Boy was I wrong. I might not be comfortable club dancing, but Swing, Salsa, Tango, Paso Doble, etc? Piece of cake.
Number crunching goes without saying, I love stats, numbers, logic. I love calculating possibilities, probabilities, etc. I might not have the mathematics degree… but I have a mathematics / statistician mindset.
When the cast is announced tomorrow morning you can bet I’m going to be number crunching and within a day or two I will have my pre-season elimination predictions all set. But what then? Once the season starts: every Monday, by midday I hope to provide a post with a predicted score for each couple before the show starts… to give people a chance to agree or disagree and provide input. Sometimes I’m right, sometimes I’m wrong… and sometimes I’m spot on. Afterall I predicted that Rob Kardashian would make it to the top three and I got a lot of flack for it… guess who was right. **evil smirk**
